Significant Weather Features (IMD)

  • The depression over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Bay of Bengal moved west north westwards with a speed of about 15 kmph in past 3 hours. It intensified into a deep depression and lies centred at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 09th October, 2017 over Gangetic West Bengal near Latitude 22.5 °N and Longitude 88.4 °E, close to Kolkata. The system is very likely to move slowly west north westwards initially during next 24 hours and move northwestwards thereafter.
  • Yesterday, the monsoon withdrawal line continues to pass through Uttarkashi, Agra, Shivpur Kalyan, Gandhi Nagar, Dwarka, Lat. 22.0 °N/Long. 65.0 °E and Lat. 22.0 °N/Long. 60.0 °E.
  • Heavy rain occurred at isolated places over Assam & Meghalaya, Gangetic West Bengal and Rayalaseema. Thunderstorm occurred at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Goa, Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Coastal Karnataka and Tamil Nadu & Puducherry from 0830 hours IST of yesterday to 0830 hours IST of today.

Main Weather Observations (IMD)

  • At most places over Gangetic West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Maharashtra.
  • At many places over Odisha, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Vidarbha, Konkan & Goa, Telangana, Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
  • At a few places over Assam & Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada, Tamil Nadu & Puducherry, Kerala, Interior Karnataka and Lakshadweep. At isolated places over Sub Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
  • Amounts of rainfall recorded at 0830 hours IST of today (3 cm or more) are: Canning-14; Anantapur-8; Diamond Harbour & Sohra-7 each; Kolkata (Alipore)-6; Kolkata (Dumdum), Haldia, Contai and Silchar-5 each; Amraoti, Aurangabad & Dharmapuri-4 each and Titlagarh, Malegaon, Matheran, Arogyavaram and Karipur-3 each.
  • Maximum temperatures were markedly above normal (5.1 °C or more) at isolated places over east Assam; appreciably above normal (3.1 °C to 5.0 °C) at most places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Saurashtra & Kutch; at a few places over East Uttar Pradesh and at isolated places over Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat Region and Tamil Nadu &Puducherry; above normal ( 1.6 °C to 3.0 °C) at most places over Rajasthan; at a few places over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Bihar, rest Madhya Pradesh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura. They were appreciably below normal (3.1 to 5.0 °C) at isolated places over Vidarbha and below normal (1.6 to 3.0 °C) at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha and south Madhya Maharashtra and near normal over rest parts of the country.
  • Minimum temperatures are appreciably above normal (3.1 °C to 5.0 °C) at most places over West Madhya Pradesh and at a few places over East Madhya Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh and Punjab; above normal (1.6 °C to 3.0 °C) at most places over Sub Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim; at many places over Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu & Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Vidarbha; at a few places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Chhattisgarh and Gujarat and at isolated places over Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and Odisha and near normal over rest parts of the country.

  • Weather Warning during next 5 days (IMD)

    • 09 October (Day 1): Heavy to very heavy rain at a few places with isolated extremely heavy falls very likely over Gangetic West Bengal and heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over Jharkhand and Odisha; heavy at isolated places over Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Konkan & Goa, Telangana, Rayalaseema, North Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu & Puducherry.
    • Squally wind speed reaching up to 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph very likely along & off West Bengal and north Odisha coasts.
    • Strong wind 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph also very likely over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and north Odisha.
    • Fishermen are advised not to venture along & off West Bengal and north Odisha coasts.
    • Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning very likely at isolated places over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar,
    • Jharkhand and Odisha, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Konkan & Goa, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu & Puducherry. Thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds and lightning very likely at isolated places over Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura.
    • 10 October (Day 2): Heavy to very heavy rain very likely at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal and heavy over Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Assam & Meghalaya, Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan & Goa, Telangana, Rayalaseema and North Interior Karnataka.
    • Strong wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph very likely over Gangetic West Bengal, east Jharkhand and north Odisha.
    • Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning very likely at isolated places over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Coastal Karnataka, Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu & Puducherry.
    • Fishermen are advised not to venture along & off West Bengal and north Odisha coasts.
    • 11 October (Day 3): Heavy rain very likely at isolated places over Bihar, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura and Konkan & Goa.
    • 12 October (Day 4): Heavy rain very likely at isolated places over Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura and Konkan & Goa.
    • 13 October (Day 5): Heavy rain very likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura.

    Weather condition:

    • Light to medium rainfall received in state during past few days. The maximum and minimum temperatures were ranged between 30.8 to 33.2 °C and 21.8 to 23.4 °C, respectively.

    Weather based agromet advisory:

    • Paddy-(Jyothi, kanjana): There is a chance for sheath blight disease during rainy season. The immediate symptom is that outer leaves of paddy become yellow coloured. Black lesions can be seen on the lower part just above the water level. As a prophylactic measure, apply Pseudomonas or Trichoderma @ 20 gram per litre of water. To prevent this disease, apply Hexaconazole @ 2 ml per litre of water.
    • Coconut: Chance of rhinoceros beetle. As a prophylactic measure, apply 250 gm neem cake (or) four number of Naphthalene balls mixed with equal volume of sand in the innermost 2 to 3 leaf axils. To control, place three perforated packets of Ferterra (5gm) sachet around spindle leaves. Vegetables-This is the time for land preparation of cool season vegetables.
