Vikram Sarabhai Memorial Lecture was delivered by Padma Shri A.S. Kiran Kumar, Chairman ISRO at IARI

ICAR-Indian Agriculture Research Institute, New Delhi in association with Indian Society of Remote Sensing successfully organized the “Vikram Sarabhai Memorial Lecture” in Dr B.P. Pal auditorium, on 25th-September-2017. The memorial lecture was delivered by Padma Shri Shri A.S. Kiran Kumar, Chairman, ISRO and Secretary, Department of Space, on the topic “Space inputs for societal and governance applications”. Dr Shailesh Nayak, Distinguished Scientist and Former Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences was in the chair. Dr A.K. Singh, DDG (Ext) and Director IARI, presided over the function.

Dr A.K. Singh, welcomed the participants and recollected the contributions of Division of Agricultural Physics, IARI, over four decades in the area of “Remote Sensing Applications in Agriculture” starting with famous “Coconut Wilt Disease Experiment” conducted in 70’s in collaboration with NASA and ISRO.

The speaker covered in detail the technological advancements undertaken by ISRO and its applications in different sectors of governance, including that in agriculture.

The lecture was attended by about 350 participants from ICAR institutes, DRDO, JNU, Delhi and Jawaharlal Universities, ISRO, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmer Welfare and Ministry of Earth Sciences.
